BIO

Alex Marland investigates the hidden dynamics of Canadian politics, examining the influence of messaging, discipline, and loyalty within political parties. He has authored or edited over a dozen books, including Brand Command: Canadian Politics and Democracy in the Age of Message Control (2016), which won the Donner Prize for Best Public Policy Book by a Canadian and an Atlantic Book Award for Scholarly Writing, and Whipped: Party Discipline in Canada (2020), a finalist for the Shaughnessy Cohen Prize for Political Writing. Professor of Politics at Acadia University, he holds the Jarislowsky Chair in Trust & Political Leadership, offering students real-world perspectives about the realities of political life in Canada.

BIO

Jared J. Wesley is an Associate Dean (Graduate Studies), a professor of political science, and a member of the Black Faculty Collective at the University of Alberta. He leads the Common Ground research team, which is examining the intersection of public opinion, political culture, and public policy in Western Canada. He has co-authored two leading textbooks in Canadian politics and public administration, Inside Canadian Politics and The Public Servant’s Guide to Government in Canada.

BIO

Mireille Lalancette is full professor of Political Communication at the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières (UQTR). She is member of the Royal Society of Canada’s College of New Researchers, Artists and Scientists. She co-leads (with Dr Éric Bélanger, McGill University) the Chaire de recherche sur la démocratie, le vivre-ensemble et les valeurs communes au Québec. She is also the principal investigator of the Groupe de recherche en communication politique (GRCP), member of the Center for the Study of Democratic Citizenship (CSDC), and also co-researcher at the UQTR Jarislowsky Chair for Trust and Political Leadership. She has published about leadership and gender in various journals in both French and English.
